Sermon Follow-up for Sunday, May 24th, 2026

Dear Saints,

Here is a summary of the application from yesterday’s sermon. As you begin this new week, be encouraged as you remember our time before the Lord and consider how you might apply these observations.

  • Godly people keep their word, even when circumstances change. David was still bound by his promise to Bathsheba concerning Solomon. Even though he was weak and in a dangerous situation, he pursued what he believed to be right.

  • The promises that we make should be made carefully with due consideration and then kept regardless of obstacles. Whether in marriage, employment, contracts, church membership, or even promising to pray for someone, giving our word creates a real obligation before God.

  • We should not be intimidated by the temporary success of the wicked. Adonijah appeared to have succeeded, and his supporters celebrated as though the throne were already his, but the trumpet announcing Solomon’s anointing exposed how fragile his triumph really was.

  • No scheme can succeed against the will of God. Adonijah had ambition, strategy, influential supporters, and David’s physical weakness in his favor, but none of those things could overturn God’s purpose.

  • The apparent prosperity of the wicked is temporary. Scripture reminds us not to envy or fear those who seem to flourish while despising God’s Word. God is just, and fully able to enforce His righteous standard.

  • God’s sovereign will is a comfort to His people. Our future does not rest finally on human strength, weakness, opposition, or circumstance, but on what God has revealed and promised in His Word.

  • The gospel is the supreme display of God’s sovereign mercy. The same Bible that tells us the truth about our sin and condemnation also declares that sinners who repent will find mercy, forgiveness, and eternal life through Jesus Christ alone.

You will be in my prayers this week.
