Sermon Followup for Sunday, June 21st, 2026

Dear Saints,

Here is a review of the application from yesterday’s sermon on Solomon’s request of the Lord (1 Kings 3). I’ve also included once again a daily devotional thought based on this material.

Pastor Bordwine

Summary of Practical Lessons and Encouragements.

  • God often comes to the aid of His people even when they are engaged in some kind of disobedience. Solomon received God’s gracious visitation while in a place where he should not have been. Believers should never hesitate to seek God’s help, knowing that His mercy is greater than their failures.
  • God’s lovingkindness is a source of great comfort and assurance for His people. Those who belong to Christ can rest in the certainty that they are never forgotten, abandoned, or separated from God’s care. His covenant love is constant, and His faithfulness never fails.
  • Obedience is an essential mark of the Christian life. While our justification and eternal security are entirely the result of God’s grace, those who have been redeemed will desire to walk in obedience to the Lord. Obedience is not the cause of salvation but the grateful response to God’s saving work.
  • Believers should regularly examine their hearts and ask whether they sincerely desire to please God. A growing love for God’s commandments and a willingness to submit to His Word are evidence of a healthy spiritual life.
  • Solomon’s return to Jerusalem after his dream illustrates the nature of true repentance. When we become aware of sin in our lives, we should turn from it and seek to walk in obedience to God’s revealed will.
  • Repentance itself is a gift of grace made possible through the saving work of Jesus Christ. Apart from His life, death, and resurrection, we would remain condemned and unable to turn to God.
  • Every experience of forgiveness, every act of obedience, and every step of spiritual growth is rooted in the redeeming work of Christ. Therefore, all praise, gratitude, and glory belong to Him alone.

Daily Devotional Thoughts

Monday When you become aware of your weakness, failure, or sin, do not withdraw from God. Instead, remember that He is a merciful Father who invites His children to seek His help precisely when they need it most.

Tuesday Reflect on God’s lovingkindness toward you in Christ. Throughout this day, remember that you are never forgotten, never abandoned, and never beyond the reach of His faithful care.

Wednesday Consider whether your daily choices reflect a desire to please the Lord. Ask God to strengthen your commitment to thankful obedience as a response to His grace.

Thursday Take time to examine your heart honestly before God. Is there an area of life where you have been resisting His will? Pray for a willing spirit and a renewed delight in following His Word.

Friday Give thanks for the gift of repentance and the forgiveness found in Jesus Christ. Remember that every step of spiritual growth, every victory over sin, and every blessing of salvation flows from His life, death, and resurrection on your behalf.
